JOB SUMMARY:
The Executive Director provides direction, leadership, and oversight toward the achievement of the vision, mission, and model of Love In the Name of Christ of Lorain County (LILC). The Executive Director also works with the Board of Directors to develop the strategic goals and objectives of LILC and then manages and ensures their implementation; ensures that the affiliate operates according to Love INC National best practices; fully embraces the mission of Love INC and supports our local churches by being fully knowledgeable and articulate about transformational ministry using the Redemptive Compassion model. Through a strong Christian worldview, the Executive Director carries out all of the duties listed in this document and serves as the spiritual leader for the organization through adherence to God’s Word and willingness to seek God’s direction for the ministry.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS:

LEADS BY EXAMPLE

  • Both professionally and personally, reflects godly and positive support for the Church and the Body of Christ to carry out the mission of Love INC.
  • Sets an example of a positive work ethic, collaborative attitude, and humility.
  • Provides spiritual leadership exhibiting maturity, integrity, and a commitment to personal transformation.
  • Is the primary caretaker of this local affiliate’s relationship with Love INC National and promoter of National’s training and resources for the LILC Board of Directors, staff, and volunteers.

WORKS WITH THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

  • By virtue of holding the position of Executive Director, participates ex-officio on the Board of Directors.
  • In conjunction with the President of the Board, develops agendas for meetings so that the Board can fulfill all its responsibilities effectively. Responsible for developing an annual calendar to cover all crucial issues in a timely fashion.
  • Supports the operation and administration of the Board by advising and informing Board members of ministry activity, condition, issues, and accomplishments.
  • Along with the President, leads the Board in developing and implementing annual strategic and fundraising plans.
  • Develops and/or oversees new local initiatives to fulfill the mission and vision of Love INC as appropriate.
  • Cultivates Board members’ involvement on an individual basis to develop their relationship and commitment to the work of the ministry.
  • With the President, recommends the composition of the Board and its committees as appropriate.
  • Assists with recruitment of Board candidates from the local member church community.

RELATIONSHIPS, DEVELOPMENT, AND FUNDRAISING

  • Church and Pastoral Relationships: To recruit volunteers and initiate/grow Gap ministries and other methods of Love INC model outreach, the Executive Director develops plans for engagement with local churches and initiates, cultivates, and stewards relationships with pastors and key church staff.
  • Chief Fundraiser and Manager of Fundraising Strategy:
    • Raises revenue with the goal to meet and exceed budget expectations. Personally initiates, cultivates, and stewards relationships with donors whether individuals, businesses, foundations, or churches.
    • Oversees the drafting of annual fundraising plan working with the Board of Directors and key staff, ensuring that these activities are diverse in nature and scheduled appropriately throughout the year.

ENGAGES THE COMMUNITY

  • Cultivates and nurtures relationships with area pastors, churches, church staff, and volunteers to help them understand their current and potential ownership of and involvement in the Love INC ministry.
  • Cultivates and nurtures relationships with community agencies and the business community.
  • Oversees development and implementation of marketing strategies to promote the organization’s vision, mission, and ministry accomplishments to the community.

OVERSEES OPERATIONS

  • Effectively manages human resources (staff and volunteers) and ensures sound administrative practices, personnel policies, and procedures, maintaining regular and comprehensive communication with staff and volunteers.
  • Oversees financial operations, risk management practices, and office space management, including leading preparation and recommendation of the yearly budget for board approval and prudently manages all resources within budget guidelines according to current laws and regulations.
  • Ensures compliance with government and IRS nonprofit regulations.
  • Sees that all policies and procedures are documented, updated, and created in a timely manner as needed; and all documentation is saved securely and backed-up regularly.
  • Oversees the development, delivery, and quality of the Connection Center and additional modes of ministry such as Gap Ministries, trainings, and all forms of transformational ministry efforts.
  • Oversees the accurate monitoring, reporting, and evaluation of LILC’s ministry impact.
  • Ensures all promotional materials and website content are current and comprehensive, and social media and other means of outreach are fully utilized to increase awareness and support.
  • Advises the Board of the potential threats and risks to LILC as a whole, and effectively prepares a plan of action to mitigate such risks.
  • Oversees all technology and equipment purchases.

ORGANIZATIONAL HEALTH/CULTURE

  • Maintains a climate and culture that attracts, keeps, and motivates top quality staff and volunteers.
  • Ensures the development and implementation of personnel training and development plans and programs that will provide the human resources necessary for the achievement of the ministry’s mission.
  • Leads, coaches, develops, and retains high-performance staff.
  • Formulates and administers all major administrative and human resource policies.

SPIRITUAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Professes Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
  • Believes the Bible to be the inspired, infallible, and ultimate authoritative Word of God (reference 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:21).
  • Is an engaged member of a local church.
  • Patterns life (both at work and personally) after the example of Jesus and the commands and principles found in the Bible – consistent with Love INC’s statement of faith, statement on scripture, and core values.
  • Desires to serve the Lord.

BUSINESS SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in management, social work, ministry, community development, or other relevant fields.
  • A minimum of three to five years leadership experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to build strong teams with a variety of people and skills.
  • Is a self-starter and initiates work independently.
  • Is experienced supervising paid staff and volunteers.
  • Able to teach and influence others.
  • Able to effectively manage multiple priorities from conception to implementation and evaluation.
  • Ability to learn, utilize, and apply new technologies to the workplace.
  • Strong understanding and commitment to the Love INC Mission and ecumenical spirit.
  • Valid driver’s license.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL AND MENTAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Remains in a stationary position for approximately 60% of the time.
  • Able to stand or walk for up to 40% of the time on various surfaces (tile, concrete, carpet).
  • Able to climb stairs.
  • Comfortable with constant bend/twist at waist/knees/neck to perform various duties.
  • Able to constantly use both hands, fingers, and arms in reaching/handling/grasping.
  • Computer literate.
  • Minimal difficulty with the constant use of eyes (correctable vision to normal level required) to observe, read, interact with public and co-workers, view security monitors; includes hand/eye coordination.
  • Good hearing (correctable hearing to normal level required) for day-to-day job functions.
  • Able to read, understand, and clearly speak English; constant use of speech and hearing (correctable to normal level required) in communicating with public/co-workers, giving and receiving instructions, using phones.
  • Mentally alert and displays acute attention to detail, along with setting priorities and following up on assignments.
  • Possesses effective written and oral communication and interpersonal skills with ability to deal with all levels of personnel and the general public in a professional and effective manner; must be able to use initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines.
